Demand Justice for Infant Injured by SWAT Team

swat team

Target: Habersham County Sheriff Joey Terrell

Goal: Obtain justice and provide adequate hospital care for infant severely injured when a SWAT team threw a grenade into his home

An innocent child was severely burned and put into an induced coma as the result of a SWAT raid. The officers threw a “flash bang” grenade into the home, nearly killing Bounkham Phonesavanh, the child, in his crib. They had entered, expecting to find drugs and the man who sold the drugs, but found neither. No one is being held responsible for Bounkham’s injury and no one has formally apologized to the Phonesavanh family.

No further investigation into this case is being done, meaning no one will be held responsible for Bounkham’s critical injury as of now. Bounkham’s family had just moved to Georgia from Wisconsin, where their house had been burned down. They were living with relatives, not participating in any drug offenses or illegal activities. His family also does not have health insurance, meaning paying for life saving treatment will be very difficult for his family. No medical expenses are being paid by the state yet, even though the damages were done explicitly by the county’s SWAT team.

Team members claim that there was no evidence of a child being in the room, but there was a large playpen outside the room. In addition, neighbors had warned the SWAT team that there were children living in the house. This advice, however, was ignored and Bounkham Phonesavanh may now not survive his injuries.

Ask County Sheriff Joey Terrell to take responsibility for this attack and provide the adequate medical care for the Phonesavanh family and bring Bounkham’s attackers to justice.

Dear Sheriff Joey Terrell,

I recently read about Bounkham Phonesavanh’s attack in Georgia. I was horrified to learn of the wounds he suffered and the grief that his family has experienced. Furthermore, I was very upset about the inefficient system of acquiring justice for this child and his well being.

Bounkham deserves to be receiving the highest quality healthcare for sustaining these injuries at the hands of the local SWAT team. He should also receive a formal apology, instead of the half-hearted attempts at excusing the SWAT team’s assault on the child’s room.

I ask that you please provide a formal apology to the Phonesavanh family and give them peace of mind, knowing that their child’s attacker will receive the right reprimands and justice. In addition, I ask that Bounkham’s medical bills also be covered, as they are likely extraordinarily costly, and his wounds were inflicted by your county’s SWAT team. Thank you for your concern for the Phonesavanh family’s further safety and well-being.

  1. This poor poor child…Its hard to imagine anything worse than burns such as these. God Bless this little baby. I can understand that crime must be stopped but surely it should all be checked out before anybody storms in not thinking about the innocent people that could be behind the door….after all, neighbours warned them about the children and also there was visable reminders that children lived there. So surely other methods could have been used.

We’ve heard way too much about police brutality and it’s getting out of hand. Yes, we acknowledge and applaud you in your efforts to combat crime but when innocent lives are affected in the process by YOUR OWN HANDS, then this is entirely a different matter.

  3. elfmirfkin says:

Most cops don’t deserve to be cops by virtue of them wanting the job. How many cops say, “I want to be a cop so I can help people and protect innocent citizens”???? None. They really say, “I want to be a cop because it pays well, I get to carry a gun, and people will be afraid of me”. That’s the truth! Now they receive military training and equipment so they can wage war against us. You and I are their enemy. They are blood-thirsty and trigger-happy. The worst part is that they suffer no consequences for their actions. They beat and kill innocent people all the time. Happens every day. What is their punishment? Three month paid vacation “pending an investigation”. After which the situation is swept under the rug. The fact: the U.S. military is prohibited by law from waging war on U.S. Citizens on U.S. Soil. This is the government’s way around that law. Make the police EXACTLY like military and say, “they’re not military..they’re police!” Never trust a cop, never allow them to search your car or home without a warrant. Never let them in. They will find a way to turn you into a criminal.
