Target: Brian Klippenstein, Executive Director of Protect the Harvest
Goal: Tell anti-animal, pro-factory farm lobbying organization you reject its “right to farm” ballot measure
A ballot measure that is currently scheduled for the Missouri general election in November 2014 threatens to undermine the regulation of anti-animal, anti-environment corporate agriculture interests in the state. If passed, the right to farm ballot measure would stipulate an amendment to the Missouri State constitution that would allow large corporate farms to abuse animals and distribute genetically modified crops without any regulation by state government.
This amendment would benefit large corporate farms and international interests over small family farms in the Missouri countryside. Please take action to stop this environmentally destructive and anti-animal ballot measure from becoming law.
According to the Humane Society, “If right to farm would pass, it will allow foreign corporations and big agriculture corporations to do whatever they want in Missouri’s countryside.” The ballot measure has been spearheaded by a location of anti-environment, anti-animal corporate farming interests known as Protect the Harvests. Protect the Harvest was responsible for passing a similar ballot measure in North Dakota. This organization threatens to set back years of hard fought protections for animal welfare and the environment to satisfy the greed of wealthy agricultural interests.
Protect the Harvest is attempting to strip regulation of genetically modified crops in order to help large corporate farms under the guise of a family farm friendly organization. This is simply not the case. Family farms would suffer as large corporate farms and international interests would be allowed to sidestep prudent regulations regarding genetically modified crops and basic animal welfare practices. The local environment in Missouri, as well as countless animals would suffer from the effects of this ballot measure as corporate farms increased their already ample profits.
The right to farm ballot scheduled for the November election in Missouri should not pass. It is a thinly veiled attempt to strip important environmental and animal welfare protections to satisfy the greed of wealthy corporate farms. Family farms and the environment of Missouri will suffer if this bill is passed.
Please sign this petition to tell Brian Klippenstein, director of the organization that spearheaded this ballot measure, to stop his anti-animal, anti-farmer, and anti-environment agenda in Missouri.
Dear Mr. Klippenstein, Your organization, Protect the Harvest, has recently spearheaded a destructive ballot measure in the state of Missouri. The right to farm ballot measure is a thinly veiled attempt to strip important environmental and animal welfare protections to satisfy the greed of wealthy corporate farms. It would have disastrous consequences for true family farms, animals, and the environment in Missouri.
The misleading right to farm ballot measure is just one example of your organizations unethical agenda that seeks to hurt the environment and the interests of average citizens for the benefit of corporate agriculture. I urge your organization to stop its unethical meddling in state politics.
Sincerely, [Your Name Here]
