Target: Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India
Goal: Praise newly-elected Prime Minister Modi for his plans to bring mass solar power to rural India
Narendra Modi, the newest Prime Minister of India, has declared his revolutionary plans to bring electricity to 400 million people in rural India by way of solar power. The formal plan is to be executed over the next few years, with the goal of every home being able to run at least one light bulb by 2019.
Stable electricity is currently a rarity in much of India, particularly in rural areas. However Prime Minister Modi’s home state of Gujarat, of which he was Chief Minister, has already experienced the change solar power can bring. Modi first developed the use of large-scale solar power in 2009, when large solar panels were placed in the sun-soaked fields of Gujarat. This has allowed the state to have stable, uninterrupted electricity. Modi is now looking to do the same for his 400 million citizens currently without electricity.
This plan, known as the National Solar Mission, plans to develop 20,000 megawatts of grid-connect solar power capacity and 2,000 megawatts of distributed solar power capacity by the year 2022. This would not only help the individual lives of Indians but would also help India’s economy flourish, preventing the mass blackouts that are all too frequent.
India on the whole has suffered from a “power deficit” every year since 1985; being able to expand this necessary resource would change millions of lives. Being able to do so with a clean, renewable energy source would lead the way for even more developed nations to do the same. These plans should be admired and celebrated. Congratulate Prime Minister Modi for his efforts to bring sustainable electricity to all of India.
Dear Prime Minister Modi,
I would like to thank you for your plans to remedy India’s energy crisis. Your recently announced plans to bring electricity to more 400 million people via solar power are most admirable and inspiring.
Your accomplishments in your home state of Gujarat are impressive as well. Being able to use solar power to bring stable electricity to the masses is great accomplishment; using this technology to help power the whole of India may very well be life-saving. Additionally, the use of clean solar power helps protect the Earth from more pollution and destruction, something all nations should strive for.
Thank you again, Prime Minister, for your plans to help both the people of India and the citizens of the world. I look forward to seeing these plans come to fruition.
