Target: Virginia Delegate Bob Marshall
Goal: Stop the attempted impeachment of Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring for his support of LGBT rights
Virginia Delegate Bob Marshall is currently trying to impeach Attorney General Mark Herring for his opposition of Virginia’s Same-Sex Marriage Ban, and his general support of LGBT equality. This is only the latest in a long line of radical anti-LGBT movements by Marshall, all of which are prohibiting the movement towards equality in both Virginia and the United States as a whole.
Earlier this year, a federal judge ruled that the Virginia’s 2006 ban on same-sex marriage was unconstitutional, despite having voter support. In response to the ruling, Herring did not defend the ban or seek an appeal, stating that this was a “great day for equality in Virginia”, and that the ruling would put Virginia “on the right side of the law and the right side of history.” Delegate Marshall, however, does not agree.
In an email to his supporters, Marshall outlined his reasons for Herring’s impeachment, citing that not banning same-sex marriage was “a detriment of children and the well-being of society”. His petition, which is now inactive due to controversy, and the accompanying email, offered no solid grounds for the impeachment of Herring, but stemmed from a personal anti-LGBT agenda.
This continual discriminatory nonsense from Marshall must be stopped. Sign below to let your voice be heard, and stop Bob Marshall from attempting to impeach Attorney General Mark Herring.
Dear Virginia Delegate Bob Marshall,
Your recent attempt to impeach Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring for his refusal to support the Same-Sex Marriage Ban is one of deplorable intentions and unjustifiable reasons. Because of this, I ask you to reconsider this campaign, as well as the way in which you are currently representing the Commonwealth of Virginia.
In your email to your supporters, you state that “removing all standards against same sex or ‘sodomy marriage’ in America” is “to the detriment of children and the well-being of society.” However, the real detriments to society are your abrasive anti-equality statements, including the vocal opposition of appointing Judge Tracy Thorne-Begland to the bench because of his sexual orientation. This is pure discrimination, and not representative of a progressive society.
It is clear that your attempted impeachment of Attorney General Herring is one of personal interest and opinion, rather than a desire to better the lives of Virginians and Americans everywhere. I ask you, Delegate Marshall, to serve your commonwealth greatly, and stop attempting to impeach Attorney General Herring.
