Success: U.S. Sends Aid to Find Missing Nigerian Girls

Nigerian School

Target: President Barack Obama

Goal: Thank Obama administration for sending troops to find missing Nigerian girls

Recently, 276 girls in a Nigerian school were abducted by terrorist group Boko Haram. For two weeks, the world was silent about their disappearance until the girls’ parents began asking for international help. According to these parents, the Nigerian government has done very little to get these girls back and were forced to asked other countries, like the United States, for help. The Obama administration has responded to these pleas and sent 80 troops to help with the search.

Boko Haram translates to “Western Education is a sin,” and the group has been responsible for massive attacks in Nigeria. The group targets schools—particularly female students—in an effort to curb education. The group has been responsible for multiple murders and terrorized many citizens in the region.

The Nigerian government recently announced that it knows the whereabouts of the girls, but would not announce where their location for fear of harming the girls. Along with the 80 American troops, drones and manned aircraft equipped with heat detecting equipment have been deployed. Currently, they have not found the whereabouts of the girls. Those that are being used in the search are from the CIA, the State Department, the military, and the FBI. Despite international pressure, the terrorist group is still raiding villages and killing citizens.

Sign this petition and thank President Obama for responding to the parents’ pleas. Hopefully these girls will be rescued alive, with minor injuries.

Dear President Obama,

I am writing this letter to thank you for sending troops to find the missing 276 Nigerian girls who were abducted from their dorms. These girls knew the dangers of going to school, but they went anyway to take their finals. Many wanted to become doctors, lawyers and teachers, and unfortunately, these girls were taken from their beds simply for for pursuing an education.

It makes me furious that a group would be so against a child receiving education. It is because of education that humans are able to live in comfort, that we have modern medicine and ethics. I do not understand the violence this terrorist group is willing to inflict, and I deeply hope that these girls will be rescued alive and with few injuries. I also hope that these girls’ hopes and dreams aren’t dashed by what these terrorists have done to them. Please ensure their safe return to their families.
