Urge School to Stop Hosting Donkey Basketball Fundraisers

donkey basketball

Target: Crawford AuSable School District

Goal: Urge school to stop hosting donkey basketball fundraisers which can cause pain or injury to the animals involved

Hosting donkey basketball fundraisers may seem like a great way to raise money for the school, but the animals involved in this type of fundraiser often endure some sort of pain or injury caused by the participants of the event. The fact is that most participants of the fundraiser who are hosting the games have no experience in handling donkeys at all, and this can be detrimental to the donkeys’ well-being.

The students attending these fundraisers tend to push, pull, kick, or accidentally hit the donkeys with balls, thus subjecting the animals to possible pain or injury. This type of activity also sends a message to the kids that it is acceptable to humiliate or abuse anything or anyone who is weaker than them and unable to fight back.

Unfortunately, the Federal Animal Welfare Act does not protect donkeys, and as such, these donkeys used in basketball events are continuously subjected to a variety of abuses. There are other great ways to fundraise which do not include exploiting animals or subjecting them to pain or injury. Sign this petition and urge the Crawford AuSable School District to make their donkey basketball fundraisers a thing of the past.

Dear Crawford AuSable School District,

It has come to my attention that you have been hosting basketball fundraisers which include games involving donkeys. This concerns me because most of the people participating in these events do not have any animal handling experience and could harm the donkeys involved. Many of the participants lack the knowledge to properly handle these animals.

The students who attend the events also subject the donkeys to a variety of abuses. They tend to push, pull, or even punch the donkeys. Since this is a basketball fundraiser, the donkeys are also at risk of being hit by mis-thrown basketballs. This could also send a message to the kids that it is acceptable to humiliate or abuse those who are weaker than them and less likely to fight back.

Since the donkeys are not protected under the Federal Animal Welfare Act, I believe that it is your duty to ensure the donkeys do not continue to suffer any more mistreatment at events such as your fundraisers. There are many other great ways to fundraise that do not involve exploiting animals and subjecting them to pain or injury. I urge you to take action and consider the welfare of these donkeys.

Find some other way to raise funds. These poor donkeys are often treated cruelly. Money should never be made off abuse.

  2. Rosemary Anderson says:

This is disgusting, animals sj=hould not be used for our entertainment , it is abuse! And this is teaching children to abuse animals. Donkeys are gentle creatures that are much abused across the world and its got to stop.
