Protect Rare Albino Moose

Target: Prime Minister of Canada, Stephen Harper

Goal: Save the rare albino moose by educating hunters of its importance

In Nova Scotia, Canada, hunters shot and killed a rare albino moose that is considered to be one of the most sanctified spirit animals in the Mi’kmaq aboriginal culture. The hunters who killed the animal have turned over the moose’s rawhide and stated that they were unaware of the animal’s importance and impact on the Mi’kmaq people’s culture. A Nova Scotia Mi’kmaq chief will host a multiple day observance to honor the killed albino moose.

The albino animal is celebrated in the Mi’kmaq culture and the public images of its body shot by hunters truly upset their group. There were only three albino moose living in the Nova Scotia area. One moose became extremely ill and was killed by the Department of Natural Resources, another was hunted and killed, so there remains one single living moose remaining without any protection by legislation whatsoever.

The government needs to protect the rare albino moose. They can start this concept by providing hunters with additional education about what animals in the wild are deemed sacred, rare, and/or becoming extinct. Educating hunters can help improve the unawareness that is seen when a hunter kills a rare animal. Most hunters really are unaware that some cultures and groups have connections to certain animals.

Please sign this petition to tell the prime minister of Canada that stricter penalties need to be placed on hunters who kill rare animals.

Dear Prime Minister of Canada, Stephen Harper,

The albino moose is one of the most extraordinary creatures in the animal kingdom. It is sad to hear that hunters killed one of only three existing moose in Nova Scotia, Canada. The best way to combat that is to have strict legislation to protect the rare albino moose. Another idea is to provide active hunters with more education about the different animals in the wild. When the Mi’kmaq people spoke to the hunters, they claimed to not have known the significance of the albino moose.

There needs to be changes made to stop the ignorance. The rare albino moose is deemed as sacred and holy to the people of this culture. There need to be people who can teach educational classes, provide handbooks, or have online tutorials to show what hunters are allowed to hunt and what they can be prosecuted for hunting.

There is only one more living albino moose in Nova Scotia, Canada, so more needs to be done to protect its life.

hinters have no right to Kill any wild and FREE ANIMALS! What gives them the right to kill a Majestic Spiritual Animal and get away with it! Hunting should be against the law! It is cruel and sadistic and only really done for sport!!!!

  2. Kathleen Williams says:

I hope that all hunters who kill for thrills are stalked, wounded with a gut shot, and suffer a slow, agonizing death every day in Hell. I have never been so terrified for wildlife. And what an ugly world this will be when the only animals left are the ones that mankind breeds and slaughters for products. Tragic.
