Target: Mayor Jim Dear
Goal: Thank Carson, California for taking serious action against bullying
The city of Carson, California has recently made the act of bullying a misdemeanor crime. This ordinance makes bullying illegal, and will hopefully reduce mental and physical bullying in the city. This city deserves praise for taking action against the serious problem of bullying.
The ordinance which was just approved will enable the punishment of individuals or groups who bully anyone under the age of 25, in cases which involve emotional or physical distress or harm. The policy should help reduce bullying, or at least punish those who commit immoral acts against others.
Bullying is a serious issue in the United States, with one quarter of all students being victims of bullying. This greatly increases chances of emotional issues or suicidal behavior in children. Whether or not this law will be immediately effective in improving the issue of bullying, it is certainly a positive step in the right direction.
