Denounce Farm Owners for Animal Cruelty

Target: Paul B. Ebert, Commonwealth’s Attorney for Prince William County

Goal: Punish abusive farm owners for cruel treatment of animals

A farm in Prince William County, Virginia has recently been exposed for abusing animals. Larry and Carol Sams, the owners of Cross States Stables, have been charged with 57 counts of animal cruelty. A number of animals including 17 horses, 19 sheep, 4 dogs, a cow, and a llama were found suffering in unsanitary conditions on the farm. Please sign this petition to ensure that the owners of this farm are punished for the cruel treatment of these animals.

One of the owners of this farm, Larry Sams, was already convicted on misdemeanor charges of inadequate care for agricultural animals last year. This type of repeated cruelty to animals should not be tolerated.

Authorities learned of the squalid conditions at the farm after receiving complaints from a concerned citizen regarding the care being given to horses and dogs on the farm. The farm was subsequently searched by a veterinarian accompanied by a police officer. Many sick animals living in unsanitary conditions were discovered on the farm.

The veterinarian examined a horse with an open wound that was badly infected. Rabbits and poultry were kept in cages without access to food or water. Most of the cages were covered in feces.

Cross States Stables advertises riding lessons, pony parties, and animal sales at its facilities. Unfortunately, the reality of the farm is much different. Animals suffer in inhumane conditions under the care of an owner previously convicted of negligent care to animals. Given the pattern of cruelty to animals exhibited by the owners of Cross States Stables, they should not be allowed to care for animals in the future. Please sign this petition to encourage the authorities in Prince William County to prosecute these animal abusers to the full extent of the law.

Dear Paul B. Ebert, Commonwealth’s Attorney for Prince William County:

I am writing to you regarding the recent animal abuse that occurred at Cross States Stables in Prince William County. The abuse that occurred at this farm facility is shocking. It has been reported that many animals were found suffering in unsanitary conditions, and some were suffering from serious wounds that were not being treated. There is no excuse for treating animals this way.

I would like to encourage you to prosecute the owners of this facility appropriately.  One of the owners has previously been convicted on misdemeanor charges of inadequate care for agricultural animals. Please end this owner’s pattern of animal abuse by punishing him appropriately.
