Target: Sh. Bishan Singh Bonal, Member Secretary of the Central Zoo Authority of India
Goal: Shut down abusive zoo where dying animals are being stuffed and put on display after suffering
The Mumbai Zoo in India is such an abusive and neglectful place that it cannot obtain any new animals for exhibits, because its existing conditions do not conform with anti-cruelty guidelines set by India’s central zoo authority. Instead of improving their conditions to better support the animal life within their walls and comply with more humane standards, the zoo has instead decided to taxidermy the animals in the zoo that are quickly dying, and is setting the stuffed figures up instead of live animals.
Zoo officials are planning to slowly turn the zoo into a taxidermy museum, a monstrously appropriate testament to the gruesome practice of inhumanely caging animals and neglecting and abusing them. But the zoo is still planning on acquiring new animals, as the zoo director Sanjay Tripathi told the BBC that “The existing enclosures do not accord to the new guidelines, and the taxidermy museum is part of the renovation plan. Once the open spaces surrounded by trenches are created we will be able to get new animals. It could take up to five years.”
These people should no longer be making money off of the backs of the animals they abused and neglected during their lives. It is against our concept of human decency to allow these people to continue to charge ticket money for customers to stare at the dried and stretched husks of animals that were once victims of cruelty at the hands of the very people collecting the money.
Please sign this petition to demand this inhumane zoo and the taxidermy museum it is slowly becoming be permanently closed.
Dear Sh. Bishan Singh Bonal,
The Mumbai Zoo, which is slowly becoming a taxidermy museum, is an affront to animal rights and to humane practices in general. Instead of improving the quality of life for the helpless animals in their care when their standards do not reach specified guidelines, officials at this zoo have resorted to stuffing the dead carcasses of the very animals that they abused and neglected in life.
This is unacceptable. You must close this zoo, and release the animals to sanctuaries. It is disturbing and inhumane to let these animals languish and die, and then prop them up once again for our amusement. Please close this zoo so that these officials will stop making money off of the animals they tortured in life and humiliated in death.
