Target: President Barack Obama
Goal: Rescue the missing 276 schoolgirls from Nigeria
On April 15th 2014, an armed militant group stormed into a girl’s school in Nigeria and abducted more than 200 girls in the middle of the night. As they were shoved into vans, 50 of these girls managed to escape as the vehicles drove away. These girls haven’t been seen since. The Nigerian government has done very little to rescue these girls, and family members are calling for international forces to rescue them.
The terrorist group Boko Harem, which translates to “Western education is a sin,” are responsible for the abduction of these girls. Thanks to terrorist efforts from this group and various others, many schools in Nigeria have closed their doors for fear of being attacked. The girls, who are both Christian and Muslim, knew the risks and arrived at school anyway to take their finals. These girls expected to go on to become doctors, lawyers, and teachers. Unfortunately, these girls will be sold at $12 each to become militant wives.
Fear is abound in Nigeria, where many children, especially girls, are denied education out of fear. Even if these girls are rescued, many of them will not be eligible for marriage because of suspicions that they are no longer virgins.
Parents tried to pursue the terrorist group with bows and arrows, but since Boko Harem is armed with AK-47s, the parents had no chance of winning. The families of these girls are pleading with the government to do something, but misleading information and lack of organization is preventing a massive rescue party from being formed. The families are now turning to social media, the United States, and the United Nations for help.
Even if your country is not at risk of being attacked by militant groups, think of your own niece or daughter being abducted in the middle of the night. These parents are living their worst nightmare and their own government is powerless to help. Sign this petition and urge President Obama to get involved.
Dear President Barack Obama,
I am sure you are aware of the missing Nigerian schoolgirls who were abducted by the terrorist group Boko Harem recently. These girls have been missing for two weeks, and are no doubt suffering. These girls showed bravery for going to school in a land where militant groups attack women for receiving an education.
As someone who is the parent of two daughters, I am imploring the United States to step in and rescue these girls. The Nigerian government has done very little to rescue them, but perhaps the United States would have a better change. Please get these girls back to their families.
