End Promotion of Cruel Seal Hunt

Target: Dion Dakins, CEO of Carino Processing Ltd.

Goal: Stop the promotion of seal meat at public events

The CEO of the seal processing company Carino recently decided to promote seal hunting during a Bryan Adams concert in Newfoundland’s capital city, St. John’s. The sale raised eyebrows regarding the company’s intentions, because Adams has been a supporter of PETA and openly condemned the seal hunt. Canada’s annual seal hunt is one of the most significant acts of animal cruelty on Earth, and the government protects it. The promotion of seal products must be stopped so there will no longer be a demand for them.

Carino CEO Dion Dakins sold pelts and other seal products near the stadium at the concert. “We have false information that’s going around by parent organizations like PETA … that don’t recognize how professional and how necessary our industry is, so we just wanted to offer some product to wanting consumers,” he claims. Carino is one of the largest seal processing companies in Canada and has a significant financial stake in the hunt.

Canada’s commercial seal hunt is the largest mass slaughter of marine mammals in the world. More than 325,000 baby and adult seals will be killed this spring, plus an additional 10,000 harp seal quota for an aboriginal allowance. Seal hunting is incredibly cruel and detrimental to the environment and needs to be done away with. Please take a moment to sign the petition below and demand an end to the promotion of seal hunting and to choosing money over mercy.

Dear Dion Dakins,

You recently used the concert of a known opponent of the Canadian seal hunt to promote your seal processing company, Carino. The promotion of seal hunting needs to stop. Because the industry is declining, seal populations are the healthiest they have ever been and, despite your insistence that this is hurting the fishing industry, numerous environmental studies have proven that seal hunting is one of the main causes of suffering fisheries.

The hunt is the largest marine wildlife slaughter in the world, an indescribably cruel event. Showing mercy and kindness to these animals and their environment will do more for the world than saving an industry that survives off of cruelty.
