Remove High Levels of Trans Fats from Restaurant Chain

Target: Joe’s Crab Shack CEO, Raymond Blanchette

Goal: Remove Trans-Fats from Chain Restaurant Menu

The popular seafood chain Joe’s Crab Shack is currently under strict watch for having what is considered an especially unhealthy and potentially dangerous menu. The Center for Science in the Public Interest is disgusted with the restaurant chains menu, especially considering past promises to improve the quality of food. This restaurant needs an immediate menu remodel to cease from being a threat to public health.

The Center for Science in the Public Interest released a statement saying “Joe’s Crab Shack is a nutritional shipwreck of a restaurant chain, ruining expensive seafood with cheap, industrially produced trans-fat designed to simulate butter”.  This simulated butter substance is commonly known as trans-fat and is widely considered the most dangerous food additive used in America and a cause for many fatal diseases. Trans-fats are not recommended, even in small amounts and the Food and Drug Administration has recently proposed banning it altogether; a step that many other countries have already taken. The biggest issue with the use of trans-fats by Joe’s Crab Shack is the fact that the company promised to eliminate their use in 2007. However, the restaurant chain is still using it, and in very high amounts. The levels of trans-fats in some menu items are so high that the Food and Drug Administration has officially dropped the items from their list of food that is “generally recognized as safe”.

Although consumers have full right to choose what they eat, many are not properly informed, or are even deceived about what is in their food. With a menu full of seafood which is known to be a healthy food item and a slogan “Killer Choices” most diners at Joe’s Crab Shack would not suspect that they are eating what is considered “the most unhealthy meal in America”. It is a consumers right to know the dangerous chemicals they are putting into their body, and this restaurant is not only failing to inform their consumers, but misinforming them. Joe’s Crab Shack can afford to use real butter and there is no justifiable reason that they should be using a substance banned in many countries in such high amounts.

Please sign the petition below to insist that Joes Crab Shack eliminate trans-fats from their menu:

Dear Raymond Blanchette,

Your current menu is dangerously unhealthy and is being considered a “nutritional shipwreck” by the Center for Science in the Public Interest. The amount of trans-fats you use in some of your menu items far surpasses that of any other restaurant chain. Trans-fats are widely considered the most dangerous food item; an item which the Food and Drug Administration has recently proposed to ban and that is already banned in several other countries.

The main issue with your use of trans-fats is the fact that you promised to ban them in 2007. Many consumers are now ill-informed; thinking that you do not use trans-fats in your food. Between this broken promise and slogans like “Killer Choices”, your customers are highly deceived about the quality of your food.

Please do yourself and your consumers a favor by removing trans-fats from your menu. They are providing nothing but negative consequences for your reputation, and your consumers’ health.
