Target: Pamela Ahern, founder of Edgar’s Mission
Goal: Thank Australian sanctuary for rescuing and providing care for thousands of farm animals
In 2003, Pamela Ahern rescued a pig named Edgar Alan Pig who she loved so much that she quit her job and started Edgar’s Mission, a sanctuary in Victoria, Australia, that offers a life-long home to over 300 animals at a time. Pamela’s mission is to not only save the lives of farm animals, but also raise awareness about farm animal rights. For her incredible effort, she deserves our gratitude.
As it says in their mission statement, Edgar’s Mission offers “sanctuary to farm animals in need while working to expand the public’s circle of compassion to include all animals. We endeavor to achieve this through education, advocacy and empowerment and promote compassionate and cruelty free living. Our mission is simple, our mission is kindness.” In 2013, the non-profit rescued more than 3,000 animals at its sanctuary in the foothills of the Great Dividing Range in Victoria, Australia.
Visitors to their website can view the profiles of the sanctuary’s current residents and also sponsor one of them or make a donation. In their “Campaigns” section you can also view the current issues they are addressing as well as the contact information and mailing addresses of various agricultural Ministers throughout Australia.
Edgar’s Mission has quickly become one of the most successful farm animal rescue operations in the world and one of the most active campaigners for animal welfare reform. Unlike companion animals, farm and work animals have no voice in the world and nothing to protect them, but Edgar’s Mission is working to change that. “I would have to say the most rewarding work is directly saving the lives of animals and seeing them transform from frightened and sickly to happy and healthy little (and often times not so little) critters,” said Ahern.
Please take a moment to sign the petition below to thank Pamela Ahern and Edgar’s Mission for saving countless lives and working to spread kindness to all animals.
Dear Pamela Ahern,
In 2003 you opened Edgar’s Mission, a farm animal sanctuary in Victoria, Australia that is home to more than 300 animals at a time who would have otherwise had much shorter lives. In 2013 alone you rescued more than 3,000 animals and ensured the quality of their lives was what it should have always been.
Thank you so much for your effort to save farm and work animals and to change laws and public opinions about how non-companion animals should be perceived. These animals deserve our kindness and protection and you are working to make that a reality.
