Target: House Committee Chairman Lamar Smith
Goal: Accept the overwhelming evidence of human-caused climate change that has led to global warming
A recent hearing held by the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology to review the White House’s budget request for science agencies has further revealed many representatives’ lack of curiosity and denial in climate change and global warming. In fact, 17 out of 22 of the representatives on the committee have consistently made statements that deny climate change or question the notion that much of it is caused by human activities. In Committee Chairman Lamar Smith’s opening statement of the hearing, he said the new budget focuses “far too much money, time, and effort on alarmist predictions of climate change.” This may have dire consequences for the future and sustainability of our planet because if the claims made by the majority of the science community are true, measures need to be taken soon to prevent any further drastic changes in climate.
The committee includes a Georgia representative who believes the theory of evolution, embryology, and the “Big Bang Theory” are “lies straight from the pit of hell.” Another committee member claims that global warming is a plot created by liberals to “create global government to control our lives.” During the hearing, the White House’s science advisor John Holdron defended the overwhelming evidence and acceptance of climate change by the vast majority of scientists that are actively working in the field, despite the ridiculous rebuttals and questions raised by some of the members on the committee.
A recent study done by an intergovernmental panel has shown the impacts and costs of climate change and the scientists concluded that they can be reduced significantly if we cut our greenhouse gas emissions. The acceptance of the existence of climate change and global warming is shared by the majority of today’s scientists. Demand that our government accept this evidence so we can make a positive change for our planet.
By signing this petition, you will help urge the House Committee of Science, Space, and Technology to accept the overpowering evidence of human-caused climate change and global warming.
Dear Representative Lamar Smith,
I am writing to you with a grave concern for the future of our planet. The recent budget hearing held by the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology unveiled the lack of desire for further research and even the denial of the existence of human-caused climate change and global warming that exists among a number of members on your committee. There are countless scientific studies and reports that show the impact and potential causes of climate change, but they have been ignored by many of our representatives.
A recent study done by an intergovernmental panel has shown the impacts and costs of climate change and the scientists concluded that they can be reduced significantly if we cut our greenhouse gas emissions. If our representatives do not change their stance on this issue soon, we may suffer irreversible consequences as a result of further climate change.
I am urging you and your committee to accept the evidence, impacts, and existence of manmade climate change and global warming so that we can begin to make a positive change for our planet before it’s too late.
