Target: The President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins
Goal: Seek justice for animals found dead at the bottom of a cliff and prevent instances like this from happening again
Animal welfare is a big issue in Ireland. Due to the insufficient number of horse slaughtering facilities, many horses are left abandoned, or worse. Recently, nearly seventeen animals were found dead at the bottom of a cliff in Ireland. Of those seventeen animals were ten horses, four cattle, and three calves. The evidence has lead many to believe that the person or people responsible purposefully led these animals off the cliff to get rid of them.
This disturbing case of animal dumping shows the measures that some people will take in order to get rid of their animals. What is most sickening in this case is that some of the animals may not have died on impact; one horse was still barely alive when it was found before being put down shortly thereafter.
These animals were simply tossed over the edge of a cliff and left for dead. They were found with broken bones and their identification tags clipped off. The person or people who committed this atrocity had no regard for these animals at all. No animal should have to suffer a death such as this. Sign this petition and demand justice for these animals.
Dear President Michael D. Higgins,
The deaths of the seventeen animals found at the bottom of a cliff in Ireland is an atrocious act of animal dumping. The seventeen animals found included ten horses, four cattle and three calves. The person or people who committed this crime clearly had no concern for the welfare of these animals at all. The animals were found with their tags clipped, which shows that the crime was deliberate and carefully planned.
I believe that this is in part due to the lack of slaughtering facilities in Ireland. Although a slaughterhouse is not the most decent way for an animal to die, it is a lot better than being tossed off a cliff. The number of abandoned animals such as these could be reduced if there were a solution that meets the owners’ interests and is also humane in regards to the lives of these animals.
I urge you to seek justice for these seventeen animals found dead at the bottom of the cliff. No animal should have to suffer a death such as this. I also urge that you implement a plan that will find a solution to ensure that owners’ will not have to feel like this would be the only way for them to get rid of their animals.
