Target: Judge Jan Jurden
Goal: Require child rapist to serve a full sentence in prison
The heir to the DuPont fortune, Robert V. Richards IV, was found guilty of raping his three-year-old daughter. However, he will not be spending one day in prison. Why? Because Judge Jan Jurden, who originally sentenced him to eight years in prison, changed her mind, saying Richards “would not fare well in a Level 5 setting.” Demand that this child rapist serve a just sentence for his disgusting crime.
At age five, Richards’ daughter confessed to her grandmother that she had been sexually abused by her father since the age of three. She said he told her it was their “little secret” but she did not want him touching her anymore. Richards admitted to the crime, but said, “it was a mistake and wouldn’t happen again.”
Richards is unemployed and lives off of his family’s fortune in a mansion in Greenville, Delaware. His great-grandfather was Irenee DuPont, president of the DuPont chemical company. Because he is a wealthy white man convicted of child molestation, Judge Jan Jurden claims he would be a target in prison, and the system would not be able to protect him. Regardless of the risks Richards faces in prison, he deserves to pay appropriately for the terrible crime he committed against his little daughter. Demand that Judge Jan Jurden require Richards to serve the just time in prison for raping a minor.
Dear Judge Jan Jurden,
Robert V. Richards IV was convicted of raping his daughter repeatedly from the age of three to five-years-old. Instead of serving the appropriate amount of time in prison for this heinous crime, you have required him only to receive treatment and be on probation for some time, serving no prison sentence as you believe he “would not fare well” in prison.
Why should this particular child rapist be given pardon for his crimes? He sexually abused his daughter when she was only a toddler—justice must be served. He deserves to spend time in prison for this disgusting crime, and just because he is a white, wealthy man, he should not be exempt from serving time in prison.
Put Robert V. Richards IV in prison to stop him from sexually abusing his daughter, or other children.
