Thank Nonprofit for Providing Grant to Shelter that Burned Down

Target: Humane Society of the United States CEO Wayne Pacelle

Goal: Commend the Humane Society of the United States for providing financial aid to animal sanctuary that burned down

The Ark Animal Sanctuary in Maine recently suffered a serious financial and emotional blow when a fire destroyed a building and killed 16 cats. With states strapped for cash, and hard economic times affecting everyone, non-profit sanctuaries struggle financially to make ends meet and to care for animals in need.

In 2010, the Ark Animal Sanctuary raised enough funds to secure new land and buildings. Losing these buildings to a fire so soon is a devastating blow. Every non-profit in the United States is important for the welfare of animals, taking in those turned away by shelters of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) and local shelters that are full. Even those that have restricted capacity may be able to make more concessions for animals, providing homes for cats, dogs, and birds that would otherwise be killed when they are not adopted within a certain time frame.

The emergency grant of $2,500 will provide the possibility of recovery for the Ark Animal Sanctuary, boosting their ability to rebuild and provide for the surviving animals. As the fire destroyed crucial utilities—including a washer and dryer, cat cages, and a freezer, according to Bangor Daily News—the sanctuary has faced extreme difficulty in continuing to operate. The donation alleviates some of the financial burden, and allows the sanctuary to continue their efforts to rescue animals in need. Sign the petition below to commend the Humane Society of the United States for giving this sanctuary the possibility to rebuild.

Dear CEO Wayne Pacelle,

The Humane Society of the United States recently granted the Ark Animal Sanctuary in Maine an emergency fund of $2,500 after a devastating fire. Small animal sanctuaries often struggle to make ends meet, especially during economic downturns when there may be a shortage of volunteers or severely reduced federal funding. Non-profit sanctuaries are crucial in the fight for animal welfare, rescuing and providing for animals that may otherwise have nowhere else to go.

Thank you for providing the Ark Animal Sanctuary an emergency grant in a time of great need. With so many pets abandoned or surrendered, every non-profit and its rescue efforts is needed. This grant helps more than just the sanctuary; it benefits every animal that will find help at Ark Animal Sanctuary. Thank you again for this donation.
