Rehire Wrongfully Fired Employee

Target: J.C. Penney CEO, Myron E. Ullman

Goal: Rehire Bob Blatchford, who was wrongfully terminated for speaking out against JC Penney’s phony sale prices

When Bob Blatchford, a custom decorating studio coordinator at JC Penney, spoke out against the store’s deceptive sale prices, he was fired. Blatchford’s honesty is not a crime, and JC Penney has overstepped its bounds by terminating an employee for speaking the truth. Urge J.C. Penney CEO, Myron E. Ullman, to take immediate action by rehiring this employee and ending phony sales.

While it is no secret that department store sales are often masked scams, Bob Blatchford was particularly frustrated with his store’s misleading advertising. He went on the Today Show and revealed the store doubles item prices then “discounts” them by 50 percent, causing consumers to believe they are getting a good deal when often they are paying more than an item is worth. “I don’t think Penney’s will survive if they keep doing this,” he said.

Not only was Blatchford immediately terminated after speaking out against the store’s disingenuous practices, but J.C. Penney also filed an arbitration petition requiring him to return all company documents in his possession. No more than a sad attempt to cover up its mistake and prevent future incidents, J.C. Penney’s continues to deceive the public.

Much of this is the responsibility of J.C. Penney CEO, Myron E. “Mike” Ullman, who is in control of price inflation and retail deception.

Urge J.C. Penney to stop deceiving its consumers and enact fair policies immediately, starting with the rehiring of Bob Blatchford. No employee should be penalized for being honest, and no store should thrive when it makes an extra dollar by misleading the public.

Dear J.C. Penney CEO, Myron E. Ullman,

I would like to express my disapproval over the termination of Bob Blatchford, who recently spoke out against J.C. Penney for its misleading retail practices. After exposing the ways in which your store manipulates consumers to spend more money on fake sales, Blatchford was fired. This is an egregious act and no employee should ever be terminated for being honest.

The truth is that your store must be reformed, not that your employees should cover up its lies. It is deceptive to double the price of items and then advertise them as “on sale” when consumers are spending more than the item is worth. Please stop these disingenuous practices, and rehire Bob Blatchford back to your team.
