Target: Hawaii House Committee on Agriculture
Goal: Commend and encourage Hawaiian government as they try to make the consumption of cats and dogs illegal
The Hawaii House Committee on Agriculture is in the process of passing a bill that will make it illegal to eat cats and dogs. Currently in Hawaii, it is only illegal to consume cats and dogs that are people’s pets, but the new bill will make it illegal to eat any species that are domesticated by humans. The consumption of cats and dogs is upsetting to many who are pet owners, so this new step towards animal humanity is one to be commended.
In the state of Hawaii it is not unusual for cats and dogs to be slaughtered for consumption. It is not legal to eat cats and dogs who are pets, but often times these pets get mixed in with the slaughter. Many of the animals who are slaughtered and sold for consumption are people’s pets who have been lost or even stolen. The state reports several incidents of pet owners leaving their pets unattended for only moments only to find that they have been instantly stolen to be sold for consumption.
These animals who are captured are then slaughtered in an inhumane and disturbing way. They are instantly decapitated and their paws are removed so they become unidentifiable. After the edible meat is retrieved and packaged it is sold for food. This is very dangerous for public safety as this industry is unregulated and many of these animals carry harmful diseases. Another crucial issue with the current animal consumption laws is the fact that perpetrators of this industry can only be convicted if they are caught in the act of slaughtering.
This industry in Hawaii is clearly extremely corrupt and in need of reform. Please sign the petition below to thank the Hawaiian government for taking action to solve this issue.
Dear Hawaiian House Committee on Agriculture,
Thank you for your recent efforts to stop the epidemic of cats and dogs being slaughtered for consumption in your state. It is clear that this is a very large issue of inhumanity and public health and it is commendable that you are taking this issue on.
It is astonishing that many lost or stolen pets are included in this slaughter and the means by which these animals are killed is cruel and disturbing. There is also a large public health issue associated with this slaughter and many of these unregulated animals are carrying diseases.
Your efforts to improve or end this issue are imperative and very much appreciated. We would like to thank you again for your efforts towards this issue and we encourage you to pass any additional future laws that will improve these cat and dog slaughters.
