Goal: Commend charity’s efforts to save bears from captivity in central Europe
From Albania, to Bosnia, to the Ukraine, bear cubs are being abducted from the wild and forced into captivity for decades. Exploited by restaurants and diners, the bears are used as entertainment for guests — forced to perform tricks, dance and ‘pose’ for photographs. Fortunately, one organization has launched a fierce investigation into the ill-treatment of these majestic animals, saving an impressive number of them from further psychological and physical abuse.
Four Paws, a charity dedicated to animal welfare and rehabilitation, is responsible for saving countless brown and black bears from appalling conditions throughout central Europe. The charity, comprised of volunteers, international vets and comparative psychologists, save bears from captivity by challenging animal welfare laws and relocating the bears to healthy sanctuaries.
Many of the bears that come to Four Paws are disease ridden, anti-social, depressed, aggressive and unwell. Years of captivity in filthy, concrete cages leave them with debilitating skin conditions and lackluster coats. Others lose their body mass, an especially vital component to the livelihoods of wild bears, while some face castration to cut down on aggressiveness and help them interact better with other bears.
While the hunt, capture and mistreatment of bears in central Europe is still widespread, the Four Paws organization has bravely taken on the task of providing emergency assistance, rescue and seizure of bear cubs and adult bears from horrific circumstances. To date, seven bear cubs and adult bears have been seized and relocated to sprawling habitats where they are given plenty of food, shelter, privacy and, most importantly, room to grow.
By signing this petition you’ll thank Four Paws for admirable animal advocacy and commend efforts to save bears and bear cubs from captivity.
Dear Julie Sanders of Four Paws UK,
Your organization’s recent efforts to rescue bears and bear cubs from psychological and physical abuse deserves great praise. As countless bears suffer from unhealthy climate conditions, being kept in unsanitary cages, and the development of mental disorders, your organization has fearlessly challenged animal safety laws and emerged victorious.
No animal deserves to be held in captivity — forced to be ‘circus acts’ or exploited for the entertainment of the public and the profit of inhumane businesses. The work that the Four Paws organization does is nothing short of spectacular and I wish the charity much success in the foreseeable future with other animal welfare projects.
