Applaud Resignation of Conservationist Who Killed Elephant

Target: Sue Lee and the German International Animal Wildlife Federation

Goal: Thank the German Wildlife Federation and petitioners for making a conservationist resign after he killed an elephant

When someone labels himself or herself as a conservationist, there are certain characteristics that are expected of them. Unfortunately, Udo Wedekind, a well-known German environment minister and advocate, went hunting in Africa and killed an elephant. The biggest shocker was that he was one of the outspoken people who promoted and encouraged the preservation of endangered species. After the incident, a petition was started that demanded Wedekind resign from his position. The petition received over thirty-five thousand signatures forcing Wedekind to resign from his position as an environment minister in the province of Thurngia in Germany.

Udo Wedekind killed the elephant on a trip to Botswana. He viciously shot over 20 bullets to kill the elephant. He even sent out photos to his friends to brag about his hunt, but those people forwarded the message to other friends and the photos leaked to the public. It is sad when an environmental minister who openly advocates his commitment to the greater good is able to do something this shocking. Elephants are constantly in decline and it is sickening to know that poachers slaughter them to make ivory and medicine. Amidst the rising panic that there will be no more elephants left in the wild, more and more campaigns have come about to try to save this dying breed.

Please thank the German International Animal Wildlife Federation and the petitioners for making Udo Wedekind, former German environmental minister, resign from his position after killing an elephant.

Dear Sue Lee and the German International Animal Wildlife Federation,

Thank you for putting in so much effort to take down Udo Wedekind. It is sad to see that a person who was supposed to be promoting the safety of endangered wildlife turn around and kill one of them instead. It is a shame that a person who was appointed as one of Germany’s main environmental ministers could do such a thing.

We will never know what was going through his mind when he was boasting about his hunt, but it is good to know that he will never be able to work as a conservationist ever again. If it wasn’t for the petition and 30 thousand supporters, this resignation may not have happened. Thanks to your dedication and hard work, this man has now resigned.
