Condemn China for Defending Human Rights Abuses

Security in North Korea

Target: President Xi Jinping

Goal: Condemn China for defending North Korea’s human rights abuse

Despite a plethora of evidence, including testimonies, interviews with refugees and defectors, and satellite imaging, China will not acknowledge that human rights abuses exist on a grand scale in North Korea. While the majority of countries realize and accept North Korea’s abuses, China is unwilling to stop the suffering because of political ties. Condemn the country for looking the other way and refusing to protect human rights.

A Chinese diplomat recently dismissed a United Nations report that compared the human rights abuses in North Korea to those of Nazi Germany. North Korea is known for its labor camps, where those who are dissidents or commit petty crimes are sent. Public executions are commonplace, and citizens who are born in labor camps show evidence of a warped mentality. One such prisoner, who saw his mother executed for conspiring to escape, stated that his mother was in the wrong and the authorities had a right to take her life. Included in the United Nations report was a mother who was forced to drown her baby, children imprisoned from birth, and an entire family tortured for watching a foreign soap opera. Many citizens of North Korea try to escape the country and end up in China. If they are captured, China will simply send them back to endure more torture and suffering.

The Chinese diplomat Chen Chuandong suspects the credibility of the report made by the United Nations and states that Beijing will veto any resolution made by the Security Council. China does not want to encourage public disapproval of North Korea’s actions and instead urges constructive dialogue. However, discussions between North Korea and various other nations have not resulted in changes for the citizens. They still continue to suffer and many are slaughtered for simply living. Sign this petition and condemn China for allowing these human rights abuses to exist.

Dear President Xi Jinping,

I am writing to express my severe disappointment with your country’s stance on North Korea’s human rights abuses. While you may acknowledge that human rights abuses exist, you do not fully grasp the scale at which suffering and torture are inflicted upon North Korean’s citizens. I believe that this refusal is deliberate and because of this, China will not stop the suffering. China will continue to allow these abuses to continue because of its allegiance to North Korea, and I find this appalling and infuriating.

North Korean citizens are living in a regime that does not care about them; it oppresses and punishes them on a daily basis and these citizens are helpless. As a neighboring country, I had hoped China would step in and put an end to this, but you continue to be unwilling. Therefore I condemn your actions and hope that you realize that these abuses shouldn’t continue.
