Condemn Company for Failing to Penalize Employees Who Clubbed Turkeys

Target: Helen Wojcinski, Hybrid Turkeys spokesperson

Goal: Take criminal action against employees who clubbed and kicked turkeys

A turkey breeding company in Canada is under investigation after grisly footage of employees abusing turkeys surfaced. The breeding company, based in Ontario, is responsible for producing 90% of the country’s turkeys for consumption and is accused of carrying out some of the worst abuse inflicted on an animal that the Canadian media has ever seen.

The footage, caught by a member of the group Mercy for Animals Canada, who got a job with the farm to investigate allegations of abuse, shows an employee beating a bird with a shovel, another encouraging the undercover worker to kick birds, and countless other birds with open wounds.

The disturbing video and images expose the lack of animal rights and abuse regulations in Canada. Although animal cruelty is an offense, animal welfare is largely overlooked. With a lack of thorough inspections and overall apathy, many animal rights groups members are forced to implement undercover investigations to expose the abuse and motivate change.

Hybrid Turkeys’ spokesperson Helen Wojcinski informed the Canadian media that the employees have since been suspended. But, due to the nature of the violence inflicted upon these harmless animals, harsher penalties should be enforced. Not only have the employees acted recklessly, they engaged in a criminal act.

By signing this petition you’ll encourage Hybrid Turkeys to penalize its workers to the full extent of the law and promote stricter welfare practices to ensure that future birds are unharmed.

Dear Helen Wojcinski,

It has come to my attention that a member of the Mercy for Animals Canada group caught horrifying video and images of employees abusing innocent turkeys. As a result, Hybrid Turkeys responded by suspending those employees, and one supervisor, but this action does little to nothing to fully rectify the situation.

As a company that produces an unprecedented 90% of the turkey consumed in Canada, it would be a shame for the public to see the heartless violence inflicted upon the food they consume. Cruelty to animals is a criminal offense and these employees deserve to be punished to the fullest extent of the law. Also, the fact that your company believes this incident is an isolated one is disheartening. If there wasn’t shady behavior happening at Hybrid Turkeys the Mercy for Animals Canada group wouldn’t have to investigate. Simply put, there were obvious allegations.

The disturbing video and images exposes disparities in the legal system that perpetuate cruelty against animals and indifferent behavior — as your response to the allegations prove.

As the world’s largest turkey breeder, your company risks adverse consequences if the accused employees are reinstated. The suspension administered may as well have been a menial warning. I urge you to rethink your decision and reprimand them accordingly.

No animal deserves to be treated so cruelly.

When will these horrific acts of animal abuse stop. What kind of people do this for fun. Sick ones.
