Commend Man for Saving Hundreds of Stray Dogs

Target: Sasha Pejčić

Goal: Commend man for rescuing neglected stray dogs

For years, Sasha Pejčić has cared for stray dogs on the dangerous streets of Nis, Serbia. He opened his own sanctuary where hundreds of rescued dogs were able to recover from illness, eat regularly, and receive much needed spay and neuter surgeries. Pejčić’s deserves an accolade for his hard work and commitment to the devastating problem of animal overpopulation.

As of 2013, Pejčić saved over 400 dogs in Nis. The dogs are free to roam the sanctuary uncaged, where they eat, sleep and play together. Most of the dogs would likely have been captured and killed inhumanely, like the many others Pejčić tried to help before opening the sanctuary.

Animal welfare is a very low priority in Serbia, where stray overpopulation is a serious and overlooked problem. There is rampant abuse, extremely weak animal protection laws, and horrible euthanization methods. While killing strays is illegal, crimes against animals are not heavily investigated by police.

To feed 400 dogs, roughly 220 to 265 pounds of food is needed each day. While Pejčić and his volunteers have had major difficulties in maintaining the funds to feed the massive number of rescued dogs, they continue to make do with what they have. Thanks to the Harmony Fund, people from anywhere in the world can now donate to feeding the dogs at Pejčić’s shelter.

Support the efforts of these noble volunteers by signing this petition.

Dear Sasha Pejčić ,

By taking on the vast responsibility of saving hundreds of dogs from the streets of Nis, you have greatly improved the dismal state of animal welfare in Serbia. The shelter has also brought awareness to the animal overpopulation problem and the lack of animal welfare laws.

Considering the lack of government intervention, it is extremely important that more individuals step up to improve the lives of animals in places like Serbia. Your organization serves as a great example of how this can be done, even with extremely limited funds and resources. When individuals see how you’ve made a difference, they may be compelled to do the same. Thus your actions have empowered other animal rights activists around the world.

The hard work and genuine compassion that you and your volunteers have shown is rare and deserves recognition. We would like to commend your accomplishments in helping the stray and neglected dogs of Nis.
