Thank Facebook for Ending Illegal Gun Sales

Target: Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook, Inc.

Goal: Thank Facebook for enacting a policy that will prevent illegal gun sales

Over the past few years gun violence has come to the forefront of public and government awareness, and gradually changes are being made to address this deeply troubling issue. Most recently, Facebook has announced it will now take the initiative to target and crack down on illegal gun sales that take place on its site. This is a huge step forward for preventing gun violence, as Facebook has become a major place for individuals to participate in the illegal sale of firearms.

After Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America collected more than 230,000 signatures on a petition calling for action from the social networking site, Facebook began working with anti-gun violence advocates to create their new policy. The policy will include deleting posts that apply to transactions that cross state lines, not allowing users under the age of 18 to view posts from gun sellers, and blocking users who do not uphold the commitment to conduct background checks.

The United States has more guns and gun deaths than any other developed country in the world, an alarming statistic that warrants a massive call to action. Facebook’s announcement of their new gun policy is a major step for ensuring guns don’t fall into the hands of the wrong people, and the company’s wide reach should prove to make this policy very effective. Thank Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg for finally taking the initiative to contribute to preventing gun violence in the U.S.

Dear Mark Zuckerberg,

Recently your company announced it would enact a policy to help restrict the illegal sale of guns on Facebook. This move is an important show of support for the many American families who have lost loved ones to gun violence, and is a big step for tackling the enormous market for the illegal sale of guns.

I am writing to thank you for your initiative and for enacting this new policy on Facebook. The wide reach of your site will have a greater effect on ensuring that guns don’t fall into the wrong hands and contribute to further disturbing acts of violence in this country. Gun violence is an enormous issue in the U.S., as I’m sure you are aware, and companies like yours that take initiative can help to ensure we create a safer world for future generations.
