Target: Russian President Vladimir Putin
Goal: Remove Russian forces from Ukraine
A recent conflict between Ukraine and Russia could lead to bloodshed if Russian troops aren’t withdrawn from Ukraine. The conflict erupted when Ukraine’s previous president Viktor Yanukovych made a deal with Russia – a deal that much of Ukraine’s population was against. Instead of withdrawing from the deal, the former president fled, and Russia is now acting against the new Ukrainian government. Russia does not have the right to interfere with the operations of another country. Urge Russia to withdraw its troops from Ukraine immediately.
Ukrainian citizens originally wanted President Yanukovych to sign a deal with the European Union. When signed, the deal would deepen political connections with Europe, and aid Ukraine’s economy. However, the former president suddenly ended talks with Europe, and signed a deal with Russia. The deal, slashing gas prices for those in Kiev and Russia, bought a significant amount of Ukraine’s debt in the process. Appalled and deeply angered, Ukraine’s citizens took to the streets to protest. The president has now fled, and a new government has sprung up amidst the conflict.
Russia, angered over the broken deal and rioting, sent in 6,000 troops to the Crimean Peninsula, where Russian generals demanded that all Ukrainian forces surrender their weapons. Russia views this whole conflict as a “seizure of power” on the part of Ukrainian citizens and recognizes President Yanukovych as the rightful president.
Ukrainian citizens should decide who is placed in charge of their country. Russia, the European Union and the United States should not have the right to decide. To step into a country’s territory without permission is invading and that is what Russia is doing. Sign this petition and demand the immediate removal of Russian soldiers from Ukraine.
Dear President Vladimir Putin,
I demand that you remove all of your troops from Ukraine and allow the country to resolve their conflict on their own. What you are doing is invading. Ukraine never gave your troops permission to enter the country, even if the country is in a state of uproar. Ukraine is trying to restart its government and Russia is behaving like a gigantic bully for forcing the country’s hand.
It doesn’t matter what country you are, let Ukraine sort out their government and leave them alone. The deal made from the former president of Ukraine is one that is not favored by the Ukrainian citizens. The deal was also made by a person who had too much power, power that should have resided with the people. Again I demand that you listen to the people’s wants and needs; remove your troops immediately.
