Target: U.S. President Barack Obama
Goal: Demand a stop to the use of a weed killer that is poisoning our rain and air
A shocking new investigation, conducted by GreenMedInfo, revealed that traces of the weed killer ‘Roundup’ were discovered in 75% of air and rain samples in Mississippi’s Delta region. The implications of this study are horrifying, as the use of the weed killer is widespread, and could potentially be affecting a huge number of Americans.
Several more studies have been conducted on Roundup itself, drawing significant links to Parkinson’s disease and several cancers. Roundup is the flagship weed killer made by food giant Monsanto. The presence of this substance is even more worrying as its toxicity has amplified since it was approved for agricultural use. As weeds and pests have grown immune to its effects, Monsanto has increased Roundup’s potency and the amount used.
With the potential presence of toxic substances in the very air we breathe and the rain that nourishes plants and organic food, we cannot allow Monsanto to continue down this path for their own profits. We must act to prevent what could become a ubiquitous poisoning of our air and rain.
Sign this petition, and let President Obama know that we will not stand for the invasion of our personal space and will uphold our right to breathe clean air.
Dear Mr. President,
After reading a horrifying study, which found an enormous amount of toxic weed killer in the air and rain, I felt compelled to write to you in your position of power.
This study found that 75% of the air in Mississippi’s Delta region contained traces of Monsanto’s Roundup weed killer. The fact that this week killer is present in the air we breathe, and residing in the drops of rain that nourish the earth is an urgent matter of public and environmental health.
When a company puts profits before public safety, people start to take notice. Already, there are dozens of protests against Monsanto, and this will only increase in the wake of new studies which are unearthing more horrific findings.
Mr. President, I ask you, in your power, to consider the health of your citizens. As leader of this country you have the responsibility, which you swore, to protect us from harm. Please use your executive powers to put a stop to the rape of our land and food, and now, our air and rain.
It is within your power to take action. There need to be severe restrictions on pesticides – especially as weeds and insects are becoming immune, and there are far better ways of preventing them – and sanctions against companies that do harm to the people and environment.
I hope, as a leader, that you consider the people you are sworn to protect. Stop the poisoning of our air and rain, which is yet another result of a profit-based agricultural system which has no concern for the people it serves.
