Goal: Require all livestock to be grass-fed to promote health for animals, consumers and the environment
Grass-fed livestock accounts for only a small percentage of all meat produced in the United States. Most livestock are fed a concoction of cornmeal and hormones, entirely unnatural to their organic diets. Though these animals are bigger, and therefore produce more meat than their grass-fed counterparts, the meat quality is poor and unhealthy to the consumer. Demand that the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) make all meat producers feed their livestock grass instead of corn, in order to promote a healthier life for the animals, consumers, and the planet.
Though some might argue that we are too far gone to revert back to grass-feeding livestock, if the United States converted the millions of acres of ravaged industrial grain fields to permanent pastures for livestock, there would be no decline in meat production. Grass-feeding livestock is much more humane than our current factory-farming system. Instead of being trapped in a warehouse with thousands of other animals, force-fed an unnatural, unhealthy diet, and injected with hormones, animals would be able to live a more natural life, roaming free in grassy fields, eating an organic diet, and having the space to breathe and live.
The meat produced from these animals would also be much healthier for human consumption. Grass-feeding livestock eliminates the risk for e-coli, and takes away a good portion of the unhealthy fats. Grass-fed livestock produce meat with more omega-3 fatty acids and other “good” fats that are nutritious to the human body. Eating grain-fed meat is incredibly unhealthy, defeating the purpose of eating meat in the first place. Grass-fed livestock produce meat that actually holds nutritious value, making grass versus grain an important choice in food production.
Less energy goes into grass-feeding animals than growing grain for their current feed, so grass-feeding livestock would greatly reduce carbon emissions that are contributing to climate change, using less energy overall in the meat industry. Instead of growing corn and grain in large quantities, using pesticides and other unnatural methods of production, grassy fields are much easier to grow and maintain in an organic way that is good for the consumer and the environment.
Tell the USDA to make all livestock grass-fed in order to create a better life for the animals, a healthier food source for humans, and a healthier planet overall.
Dear USDA Office of the Administrator,
Please make all livestock grass-fed. Livestock that are grass-fed live healthier, happier lives that are much more humane than our current grain-fed and hormone-injected system. These animals then produce meat that is also much healthier for the consumer. Eating grass-fed meat, we do not have to worry about the e-coli and high fats content that are often found in grain-fed beef. Grass-fed meat contains omega-3s and other healthy fats that are nutritious to the human body, making it a much smarter choice for human health.
Grass-feeding livestock is also much healthier for the environment, greatly reducing the amount of carbon emissions that contribute to climate change. Pesticides and other unnatural methods are used in the mass grain and corn production for livestock feed, including an incredible amount of energy. Grassy fields are much more organic, and require much less energy use. Please implement a grass-feed system as soon as possible for the health of the animal, consumer, and the planet.
