Commend Food Company for Sustainable Palm Oil Commitment

Target: Kellogg Company CEO John A. Bryant

Goal: Thank major food manufacturing company for promising to use only environmentally responsible palm oil in its products

Kellogg Company, a multinational food manufacturing company responsible for well-known brands such as Eggo and Pop-Tarts, has recently vowed to only purchase palm oil that has been produced in an environmentally responsible manner. Palm oil is one of the largest causes of rainforest destruction, with roughly eight million acres of lush forest being cleared and burned, severely threatening the survival of local flora and fauna.

The company stated that all of its suppliers will be required to meet specific sourcing criteria no later than December 2015 to ensure that the palm oil used in the manufacturing of its packaged foods comes from plantations that uphold Kellogg’s commitment to help protect tropical rainforests and prevent endangered wildlife from becoming extinct. The Sumatran orangutan is believed to be on the brink of extinction as a direct result of deforestation and habitat destruction for palm oil cultivation, but corporate commitments to sustainably produced palm oil could prevent the extinction of these orangutans and help preserve the beautiful rainforests they call home.

Kellogg Company’s commitment to using sustainable palm oil will hopefully encourage other major food manufacturers to follow suit, and will no doubt help put an end to the devastating deforestation that has been caused by palm oil cultivation.

By signing this petition, you will be thanking Kellogg for doing what it can to help protect the environment, save endangered species from extinction and create a marketplace that favors sustainability over greed.

Dear Mr. Bryant,

I am writing to thank you for Kellogg Company’s recent commitment to only buy fully traceable palm oil that has been produced in an environmentally friendly manner. I commend Kellogg’s commitment to become a socially responsible company by collaborating with suppliers to make sure that the palm oil used in its products does not contribute to climate change, deforestation or the violation of human rights.

Irresponsible palm oil cultivation has resulted in the destruction of nearly eight million acres of lush rainforest, threatening the extinction of endangered wildlife that call the area home. Your company’s pledge to only purchase palm oil that has been produced in an environmentally responsible manner will help decrease global warming emissions, preserve an incredibly beautiful landscape and save innocent animals from extinction.

I am still NOT going to buy anything with palm oil. There isn’t enough open land on earth for everyone to have “sustainable” palm oil- so I do not trust anyone who says that they will use palm oil that hasn’t caused rain forest destruction and the deaths of orangutans.
