Target: Gus Kenworthy

Goal: Commend US Olympic skier for his decision to save four Sochi puppies and their mother

It has become commonplace for stray dogs to be seen roaming the streets the streets of Russian cities. As a result of the increase in numbers of strays, many cities have ordered the killings of thousands of stray dogs both during and before the Sochi Olympic Games. Kenworthy, a US Olympic skier, and many other animal activists have taken it upon themselves to rescue as many dogs as they can.

The dog population had especially soared during the construction of Olympic projects in Sochi. Many construction workers fed the dogs to ensure they stayed close because they believed the dogs could be useful in guarding and protecting the buildings. Once the construction was completed, the builders went home, leaving thousands of strays behind.

Many animal activists have organized car ferries to relocate dozens of dogs to families in other parts of Russia where they will be safe from the city’s order to kill thousands of dogs. With 90 percent of online international adoption requests coming from the United States, animal lovers are scrambling to help save these dogs.

Gus Kenworthy, a fellow American, did his part in this movement by rescuing four puppies and their mother; he has also arranged for kennels and vaccinations so the dogs will be ready to be sent to America, where families are already lined up  to adopt them. Sign this petition and applaud his admirable actions.

Dear Gus Kenworthy,

It has come to my attention that you have not only made vaccination appointments for four stray puppies and their mother, but you’ve also arranged for them to be sent to America where they will soon be adopted. I believe your actions are incredibly admirable, considering the fact that thousands of stray dogs in Sochi are being captured and put down.

As a well known Olympic athlete, I believe that your efforts to rescue these dogs will not go unnoticed. I believe that your actions will positively influence many of your fans in the United States to adopt the stray dogs from Sochi as well. So far, 90 percent of the online international adoption requests are coming right from the United States.

Some people wouldn’t have decided to make the efforts you have made to save these dogs. I would like to thank you for your part in the movement to save the dogs of Sochi.
