Target: CUT IT OUT Executive Director Steve Sleeper
Goal: Applaud organization for fighting to end domestic abuse
Recently, the CUT IT OUT organization teamed up with thousands of beauty professionals across the country to help end domestic violence. As part of the program, these beauticians are trained to notice the signs of domestic abuse in clientele and then discreetly refer these victims to places that can help. Beauty professionals are uniquely situated because they see clients regularly and often build trusting relationships. This program is based on the “three R’s” generally associated with domestic abuse: recognizing the problem, responding to it, and referring victims to appropriate outlets to find help. The beauty professionals are trained to notice these markers and approach the victim discreetly and without judgment. They then refer these clients to support services that can provide aid. Thankfully, the entire process is kept completely confidential. Beauticians are also encouraged to have business cards for services and educational materials on hand.
The efforts of CUT IT OUT are absolutely essential. Approximately one-third of all women in America have experienced domestic violence. And 75% of those women do not have conversations with their doctors to seek solutions or support, despite the fact that 100% of these women affirmed that it should be part of a routine checkup at the doctor’s office. Sadly, 20% of these women will experience life-long effects from their abuse.
Domestic violence has no place in our society. CUT IT OUT has created this incredible program to help protect our family and friends from abuse. Beauty professionals are uniquely situated to notice the signs or makers of domestic violence and are now being trained to help these victims find support and solutions. Dear Director Sleeper,
I recently learned about your organization’s efforts to help the victims of domestic violence through training beauty professionals to recognize and report signs of abuse. CUT IT OUT has made it their mission for beauticians to identify the markers of abuse and help these clients and victims find appropriate outlets to make their situations better. I wanted to thank you for this work in helping make America a safer, better place.
As I’m sure you are aware, more than 30% of American women have experienced domestic violence, and 75% of that number never discuss it with an authority figure—like a doctor—who could help. Beauty professionals are helping to bridge that gap, as they tend to develop trusting relationships with clients and can look for the markers of abuse.
Thank you for your and CUT IT OUT’s efforts to help save and protect the victims of abuse. This is an initiative that will help thousands of lives, without a doubt.
