Target: India President, Pranab Mukherjee
Goal: Punish those involved in the racially-charged murder of a young Indian student
Nido Tania was an 18-year-old college student from the Northeast Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh. He recently died after being beaten by a group of men in a crowded commercial neighborhood in South Delhi. The young man was allegedly with three of his friends and was mocked by people in a nearby shop about his unique hair. Reports say that after the taunting, a fight erupted and Tania was hit with sticks and iron rods but the fight was broken up by police who then took Tania and his friends away. Later on that night, the police returned to the same area to drop off the boys giving the men from the shop another chance to brutally beat Taniam and his friends again. The following day, family found Tania unresponsive and rushed him to the hospital where he was declared deceased. The police has detained one person involved in the fight, but he has denied being involved.
After the incident, human activists speculated why the police dropped Nido Tania at the same spot where he was attacked rather than taking him home. This has lead to public outcry on social media saying that this was a racist attack, which was made worst by “crooked cops.” Tania’s death sparkled a huge discrimination debate emphasizing the rest of India’s perception and behavior toward people from the Northeast region of the country. Tania’s friends and family also believe that his sudden death was the result of a fight sparked by racism of people from Northeast India. They are often discriminated for their different features compared to the rest of India.
Please sign this petition to get justice for Nido Tania by finding and prosecuting the people who attacked him.
Dear Pranab Mukherjee, India President,
Nido Tania was wrongfully killed because of a brutal attack in Northeast India. The media is speculating that this was nothing more than a racist attack because of India’s perception and treatment of people from the Northeast region. Discriminatory attacks need to be addressed and properly handled by the Indian government. This situation needs to be made public and the people who attacked Nido Tania needs to be detained and put in jail for a really long time. By taking this situation more seriously, it will stop any further racist attacks from happening in the future. Racism is a sad part of social society, but it should not be ending innocent lives.
