Investigate Country Club Starving Ducks

Target: Caroline Lee, attorney and member of Volunteers for Wildlife

Goal: Open an investigation into a country club accused of starving ducks

Flocks of domesticated ducks were saved from Rockville Country Club after claims that the Long Island country club’s chief groundskeeper was trying to starve the ducks to death. Although the chief groundskeeper would allegedly instruct the other groundskeepers not to give the ducks food or water, they would sneak the ducks some food nonetheless. The chief wanted to get rid of all of them, but some groundkeepers at the club did not agree with what their boss was making them do. These concerned groundskeepers alerted animal rights activists after they started finding dead ducks scattered throughout the usually desolate golf course. Groundkeepers said the ducks would walk around miserably on the golf course like they knew they were getting ready to die.

Volunteers for Wildlife came in and removed eight ducks from the club in early 2014. The ducks that were rescued were extremely gaunt, had thinning feathers, and suffered from infections called “bumble foot” which causes large warts on the bottom of their feet. The ducks were then handed over to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in Massachusetts, where an attorney named Caroline Lee adopted three of them. She helped the Volunteers For Wildlife rescue the ducks and is now trying to ask state officials to open an investigation of the country club, but has not gotten a response.

Please sign this petition to thank and Caroline Lee for her efforts, and show support for an investigation into this animal abuse.

Dear Caroline Lee, attorney and member of Volunteers for Wildlife,

Thank you for saving the flock of ducks from the head groundskeeper at Rockville Country Club and for attempting to open a formal investigation into the abuse these ducks were seeing. Although we don’t know why he was trying to starve these ducks to death, it doesn’t mean that we should let the situation go unsolved. Ducks, like any other animal, need optimal care and nutrition to stay alive. With the lack of care this groundskeeper was giving the ducks, they did not stand a chance.

The act of starving animals is a serious crime and if the groundskeeper was doing this on purpose then he needs to be brought to justice for what he has done. We support you in your efforts in saving the ducks.
