Applaud Efforts to Bring Neglectful Horse Farmer to Justice

Target: Christine Henderson, President of Arkansas Humane Society

Goal: Thank Henderson for valorous efforts to detain horse farmer who severely neglected nearly 100 horses

In recent news, an Arkansas man was charged with five felonies for his involvement in and execution of an appalling act of animal cruelty after horses on his farm were found malnourished and neglected. Suspecting a more severe situation, President Christine Henderson of the Arkansas Humane Society teamed up with the ASPCA and police authorities to obtain a court order to investigate the crime further. As a result, 49-year-old Rodney Dean Kankey will have nearly 113 counts of cruelty to animals added to his five felonies.

When authorities investigated Kankey’s farm nearly 100 horses were suffering from neglect, malnourishment, broken bones and eye infections. Two horses were also found dead from disease and untreated injuries. From extreme emaciation and filthy coats to unlivable stables, Kankey’s horse farm is reported to be the most shocking scene of animal cruelty in Arkansas that the humane society has seen in years.

In total, 116 horses suffered mistreatment that included insufficient food, no clean water and lack of sufficient shelter during the winter months. In lieu of the massive charges against Kankey, he’ll also be facing charges for stealing a horse that he sold to a neighboring farm, only to resell it for nearly three times the price of the original sale.

Today, the horses are undergoing veterinary treatment and rehabilitation thanks to the valorous efforts of President Christine Henderson of the Arkansas Humane Society. After visiting the farm prior to Kankey’s arrest, the Humane Society gave him advice on how to go about caring for the horses and possibly revoking his right to responsibility. Turning her attention to the horse farm, Henderson, along with the ASPCA, demanded to investigate the reports further, putting an end to Kankey’s house of horrors.

Kankey faces six years in prison, a $10,000 fine for each of the five felony counts and an extra year in prison plus a $1,000 fine for each of the 113 misdemeanors.

By signing this petition you’ll thank Christine Henderson for her investigative prowess and dedication to the rights and safety of animals.

Dear Christine Henderson,

The recent case against Rodney Dean Kankey was not only hard to read but unimaginable as hundreds of horses suffered and died at the hands of a monstrous, neglectful caretaker. Had it not been for your efforts, many more horses would have had their lives cut short as they fell victim to disease, malnutrition, insufficient living quarters and deliberate mistreatment.

By teaming up with the county sheriffs and the ASPCA you were able to transform the livelihoods of hundreds of horses. Your compassion, dedication and investigative prowess deserves to be applauded and I hope that you continue to fight for the rights and safety of animals all across the state of Arkansas.

Thank you for helping to bring Rodney Dean Kankey to justice.

  1. I hope this lousy idiot gets locked up forever, makes restitution to the rescue agency, pays for the care of these innocent horses. May he never be in the presence of any living being for the rest of his life.
