Target: President Omar al-Bashir
Goal: Bring the Red Cross back to Sudan
The government of Sudan recently ordered the Red Cross to suspend its activities throughout the nation. This decision could have an adverse effect on the lives of many people in Sudan who depend on the aid. In the past, the government has barred aid agencies from working in the Darfur area where conflict between rebel groups and other groups who are loyal to President Omar al-Bashir were most prevalent.
When the war of Darfur began in February 2003, there was a drought that unfortunately led to famine. The ICRC have aided the people in dire situations such as this by providing them with necessary the items such as clean water and food. The International Committee of the Red Cross is a humanitarian organization that has provided assistance and improved the lives of millions of people in the thirty-six years they have worked in Sudan. The ICRC has had a positive affect on the lives of the civilians amid all the fighting and conflict. The people of Sudan should not have to go without the incredible generosity and care of the Red Cross.
Without the ICRC, the civilians would needlessly go through more hardships and difficulties. It is the work of the Red Cross that gives the people of Sudan hope that their situation will soon improve. Sign this petition and urge President Omar al-Bashir to allow the Red Cross to continue their work aiding civilians.
Dear President Omar al-Bashir,
It has come to my attention that your government have ordered the International Committee of the Red Cross to suspend their activities in Sudan. I ask that you persuade your government to reconsider. As the President of Sudan, I ask that you choose to allow the Red Cross to continue to do their work aiding your people during these hard times.
Technical issues are said to be the cause of the suspension but the Sudanese authorities have yet to release any comment stating why they are specifically stopping the ICRC’s activities; so I see no reason why their work, aiding your people, should be halted. The International Committee of the Red Cross only wish to help better the lives of your people by providing them with the care and resources they so desperately need.
Your people should not have to continue to go without aid. They are living through difficult circumstances involving serious conflict and violence and they deserve some aid and assistance to help them get through it.
