Target: Bagatelle Restaurant in Manhattan
Goal: Thank Bagatelle for not allowing SeaWorld’s anniversary party to be held at their restaurant
A restaurant recently made the honorable action of calling off SeaWorld’s 50th anniversary party after learning that the company would be using two live penguins at the event. Bagatelle restaurant in Manhattan, New York is one of the many companies and pop culture figures to recently cut ties to SeaWorld after reports of their unfair treatment of wild animals as depicted in the recent documentary, Blackfish. We must thank them for their sensible decision to turn SeaWorld away.
The restaurant’s decision came after PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) asked the restaurant to reconsider, and promised to protest outside of the restaurant if they did not cancel the event. PETA informed the restaurant that it was cruel to have these penguins in the middle of a loud restaurant in New York City and that the purpose of having the penguins at the party was also unknown. The restaurant quickly decided to cancel, claiming that the event was booked by a third party and that they were unaware that there would be live penguins there.
Having penguins at the party could be very dangerous to the birds, because their extreme sensitivity to temperatures makes their transport difficult. Bagatelle’s cancellation of the event is potentially saving the lives of these two penguins.
Please sign the petition below to thank Bagatelle for their morally correct decision to cancel SeaWorlds 50th anniversary party, featuring live penguins:
Dear Bagatelle Restaurant,
Thank you very much for your recent decision to cancel SeaWorld’s 50th anniversary party featuring live penguins. Your actions could help to prevent yet another mistreatment of live animals by SeaWorld.
Penguins in particular are especially dangerous to transport due to their sensitivity to temperature, so this party could have been extremely harmful to them. We can only hope that any other locations that SeaWorld contacts for its events will take the same kind of action as you did. We are very pleased to hear about all the companies and pop culture figures who have recently refused to be associated with SeaWorld. It is through these combined efforts that we can eventually prevent SeaWorld from mistreating more animals in the future.
