Attn. Chicago: Rally this Sunday in support of Illinois Clean Cars Act

This Sunday at 2pm, the Environmental Law and Policy Center is hosting a press conference and rally at Federal Plaza in downtown Chicago in support of the proposed Illinois Clean Cars Act. 

This very important legislation would have Illinois adopt the California clean car standards, which are stronger and more effective than the loose federal CAFE standards.  For additional information about the rally, please click on the flier, and for more information about the proposed Illinois Clean Cars Act, please check out this video.

Obama’s potential energy and environmental advisors emerge

As preparation for the transition to the Obama administration begins, some hints as to who will play an important role in his presidency are emerging.  With respect to energy and the environment, Obama has added two people of special interest to his advisory board: Carol Browner, head of the Environmental Protection Agency under Clinton, and Federico Pena, the ex-Transportation and Energy secretary.

Addtionally, it is believed that a leading candidate for EPA chief is Howard Learner, founder of the Environmental Law & Policy Center (which is leading the effort to pass the Illinois Clean Car Act) and is an environmental advisor to Obama.

A shift to Illinois and the environment

Given recent events, the state of Illinois is poised to become a focal point for environmental and energy policies.  Most importantly, the election of Barack Obama, an Illinois Senator, will naturally increase the influence and attention placed on this state’s policies.  That influence is hinted at by the fact that Obama announced only one day after the election that he would be appointing Illinois Congressman Rahm Emanuel as his chief of staff.
