Target: Eddie Bauer CEO Michael Egeck & Forever 21 CEO Do Won Chang
Goal: Thank Eddie Bauer and Forever 21 for permanently banning angora fur from their merchandise
Two more well-known retailers have recently confirmed that they will be placing a permanent ban on products made with angora fur. Animal rights activists worldwide demanded retailers ban the use of angora after undercover video footage was released that exposed the horrific treatment of angora rabbits in Chinese fur farms.
Rabbits were recorded screaming in pain as their fur was ripped from their skin. Once they had been plucked bald, the terrified rabbits were stuffed in tiny, filthy cages and forgotten until the entire fur removal process is repeated three months later. This vicious cycle of abuse continues for two to five years before the rabbit is hung upside down and its throat is slit.
Since 90 percent of the world’s angora fur is imported from China—where there are no standards that regulate the treatment of animals and no penalties for animal abuse on rabbit farms—cruelty-free angora is virtually nonexistent. The only way for retailers to ensure they are not supporting this violent industry is to forgo the use of angora altogether.
Thankfully, several major retailers have answered the call and banned the use of angora in their products. Let Eddie Bauer and Forever 21 know that you appreciate their commitment to preventing the inhumane treatment of angora rabbits.
Dear Eddie Bauer CEO Michael Egeck & Forever 21 CEO Do Won Chang,
I was thrilled to learn that your company had banned angora fur from its merchandise. Rabbits living on fur farms endure horrific abuse, as they are skinned alive and housed in cramped, filthy conditions, only to be tortured again three months later.
By banning angora fur from your merchandise, you are sending a message to consumers and retailers worldwide that this inhumane treatment will not be tolerated. With the easy accessibility and high quality of cruelty-free fabrics and materials, there is absolutely no reason why an animal should have to suffer for our use of its fur.
Again, I thank you for banning angora fur from your products and taking a stand against animal cruelty. Please continue to do everything in your power to keep these gentle, defenseless creatures from becoming victims of abuse.
