Target: U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders and U.S. Representative Keith Ellison
Goal: Show support for a bill that removes tax breaks and loopholes for the fossil fuel industry
Every day, global climate change becomes a more serious problem, because every day more coal, oil, and gas pollution fills our atmosphere. For political reasons, the U.S. government still encourages the coal, oil, and gas industries to grow by cutting their taxes down to almost nothing, and by reducing their legal accountability for environmental damage. A much needed bill has been introduced to Congress by Senator Bernie Sanders and Representative Keith Ellison. Called the End Polluter Welfare Act, the bill would end these undeserved tax breaks and hold fossil fuel companies accountable for their own mistakes.
The U.S. should be ending its relationship with fossil fuel as fast as possible. It is ever more important for us to invest in renewable resources, while reducing our dependence on unsustainable energy like oil, coal, and gas. There is an almost universal scientific consensus that human activity is driving climate change, and in order to save us from ourselves, we have to find clean, renewable ways to produce energy. The faster we stop using fossil fuels, the less damage we will do to the planet.
Very slowly, U.S. elected officials are turning in favor of renewable energy, President Obama himself is pushing for more environmental protection, however we desperately need more action and commitment from the government to do everything possible to slow the trend of climate change. Sign the petition to thank Senator Sanders and Representative Ellison for helping us move in the right direction with the End Polluter Welfare Act.
Dear Senator Sanders and Representative Ellison,
Thank you for introducing the End Polluter Welfare Act. This bill will finally close the undeserved tax breaks and loopholes that fossil fuel companies enjoy, and hold them accountable for the environmental damage they cause. The fossil fuel industry should not receive government support, as we should be doing everything possible to reduce our dependence on unsustainable energy.
Climate change becomes more serious all the time, and the only way for us to adapt is to stop investing in oil, coal, and gas, and start investing in solar, wind, tidal, and other renewable energy sources. The faster we switch to renewable energy, the more harm we will prevent to the Earth. We thank you for introducing this bill, and we wish you the best of luck in passing it as a law.
