Target: Ricardo Azziz, President of Georgia Regents University
Goal: Stop university from performing cruel and unnecessary dental experiments on dogs
An undercover investigation by the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) revealed that dogs are being tortured and killed in dental experiments at Georgia Regents University. These unfortunate canines have their teeth removed and replaced, only to later be killed for a sample of their jaw bone. We must ask Georgia Regents University (GRU) President Ricardo Azziz to stop performing these cruel and unnecessary experiments at GRU.
The HSUS undercover investigator was able to film graphic video footage of these experiments, which depicts a helpless dog bleeding into a sink while surgeons remove a portion of his jaw. As if the situation wasn’t bad enough, GRU got their dogs from a Random Source Class B dealer who has been charged with several violations by the USDA. Random Source dealers collect animals from flea markets, auctions and even newspaper ads, in order to resell the helpless creatures to research facilities.
In a statement on the HSUS website, Dr. James P. Jensvold says that GRU did not have to use dogs for their cruel dental tests. He says, “In the two studies I reviewed, human research subjects could have been used, given that the products were already approved by the Food and Drug Administration and bone biopsies are commonly done in human studies. Animals used in research are often ‘sacrificed’ at the end of the study, and this is accepted as standard practice without taking into consideration the unnecessary emotional and physical suffering that the animals must endure.”
By signing this petition below, you will help urge GRU President Ricardo Azziz to stop allowing cruel and unnecessary dental experiments to be performed on dogs at GRU.
Dear Georgia Regents University President Ricardo Azziz,
A recent Humane Society of the United States undercover investigation revealed that cruel dental experiments are being performed on dogs at GRU. These unfortunate animals have their teeth removed and replaced, only to later be killed for a sample of their jaw bone.
Dental experts have stated that these experiments were not only brutal, but are also completely unnecessary. The dental products being tested are already approved by the FDA and jaw bone biopsies are commonly done on humans.
I ask that you ban GRU from performing dental experiments on dogs immediately and sever ties with the Random Source Class B dealer who provides the University with their helpless canine test subjects.
