Can green jobs get our economy back on track?
Articles — By forcechange on November 18, 2008 2:07 pmMany people, Obama included, have been arguing that a transformative change in our country’s energy policy in order to address climate change and national security issues, could be a major economic driver for getting us out of a recession.
There is already some evidence that businesses, in anticipation of the approaching changes in energy policy, are beginning to gear up. One example reported today was the news that one of the US’s bigger law firms would be creating a dedicated practice team just to focus on the legal and economic impacts of climate change.
Whether you love or hate lawyers, one thing is for sure– they are a reflection of the state of business in the country. During the dot com bubble, IP lawyers were the rage, in its aftermath, bankruptcy lawyers were in demand. Right now, even lawyers are feeling the economic pinch. But as we enter a new era of green energy jobs, a whole new set of skills will be required, and hopefully, new jobs will follow.
