SoCal wildfires can’t necessarily be attributed to climate change

A LA Times story notes today that the increasingly frequent and devastating wildfires in Southern California this decade cannot be proven to be related to climate change.  This is not a surprise, given that there is limited data and the fires could just as easily be an effect of a natural drought cycle, expanding urban development, and/or a fire control policy that has allowed excessive fuel to build up.

Of course, none of these factors are mutually exclusive, however, and they all may be playing a factor in the increased fire destruction for the region.
