Urge Iams to Stop Cruel Animal Testing

Target: Iams Pet Food.

Goal: Demand that Iams allow an animal welfare organization to tour the company’s animal testing facility.

In 2002, Iams was exposed because the company’s animal testing facility contained neglected, sick, and suffering animals that were confined to steel cages and left without veterinary care. Today, Iams still supports animal imprisonment in the name of research: hundreds of dogs and cats are kept in an Ohio laboratory for “nutritional studies.”  Iams refuses to allow organizations to investigate the animals living conditions.  These animals could be suffering a horrible existence.  Iams needs to be transparent and reveal the facility’s living conditions for animals.

Apparently, Iams fails to realize that the animals in its testing facilities are the same lovable creatures that are kept as pets in homes.  According to iamscruelty.com, the company keeps animals confined to concrete cages, in it Ohio facility, without exercise.  Although the Iams website claims that its animal testing facilities “exceed” federal regulations, Iams made similar claims of animal welfare before the company was exposed on tape in 2002.  So, we are demanding transparency now.

If the Ohio facility kept dogs in the type of environment that animal lovers would accept, the company would be open to a tour.  However, Iams will not permit a tour of the facility.  As a result, the living conditions of hundreds of helpless animals are unknown.

Iams is and can conduct home studies of animals to test its food.  In these studies, the animals live in norma home conditions and eat Iams food. Yet, Iams continues to keep countless dogs in cages in an isolated facility.

By signing the petition below you  demand that Iams allow an animal welfare organization to tour the Ohio facility. This tour will ensure that animals are actually kept in an environment that is acceptable to the animal welfare community.

PETITION LETTER

Dear Iams:

In 2002, Iams was exposed because the company’s animal testing facility contained neglected, sick, and suffering animals that were confined to steel cages and left without veterinary care. Today, Iams still supports animal imprisonment in the name of research: hundreds of dogs and cats are kept in an Ohio laboratory for “nutritional studies.”  Iams refuses to allow organizations to investigate the animal living conditions.  These animals could be suffering a horrible existence.  Iams needs to be transparent and reveal the facility’s living conditions for animals.

If the Ohio facility kept dogs in the type of environment that animal lovers would accept, the company would be open to a tour.  However, Iams will not permit an animal welfare organization to inspect the facility.  As a result, the living conditions of hundreds of helpless animals are unknown.

We demand that Iams allow an animal welfare organization to visit the Ohio facility to ensure the animal wellbeing.

Sincerely,

  1. I changed from Iams to Hills Science Diet for my cat – they give a lot of product to animal shelters worldwide too.

  2. They greedy and evil like their parent corporation P&G, who are big on meaningless animal testing while they produce and market toxic products.

  3. Testing on innocent animals needs to STOP once and for all! No more useless cruel tests when there are alternatives to testing!

  4. Guess I am going to have to break out my “Boycott IAMS” stickers again. I stll have hundreds!

  5. This is the first I’ve heard about this. I am feeding my KoKo Iams dog food now but will be returning their product and will NEVER purchase it again. I will also be informing everyone I know about this. So thankful that I received this info.

If you read the ingredients in IAMS they are actually a LOW quality pet food. I bought it a couple times years ago but haven’t since. There are much much much better brands on the market for the same price for cats and dogs. So I was not a customer for that reason. But of course this seals the deal.

  7. WICKED PEOPLE TO TREAT THE ANIMALS LIKE THIS.. I WOULD NEVER NEVER BUY THEIR PRODUCTS THE TELEVISION ADVERT SHOULD BE WITHDRAWN NOW..DISGRACEFUL !!

  8. Gerry Pinion says:

No more Iams…… Just will not and can not support this repulsive cruelty

  9. Amitav Dash says:

Ummm, Iams is owned by Proctor & Gamble; why would anyone think they wouldn’t torture animals when it’s what they’ve always proudly done and refuse to stop doing.

  10. Victoria Cole says:

Yes there are much better quality products that ought to have our money Lavera, Faith in Nature, Ecover, Evolve and Trevarno organic Cornish skincare for around price of a synthetic Oil of Olay anti aging cream
Even Mars take part in useless tests http://marscandykills.com/experiments.asp these companies are poison to animals

  11. Cindy Hamilton says:

I am ashamed to say my cat has eaten Iams and I refuse to ever spend my money for anything that companies make lots of money tormenting these beautiful animals.
I will never buy anything of theirs again until they are brave enough to prove that they are not doing the testing on animals whatsoever !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! These darn companies need to test their darn selves instead of aggravating serious animal lovers like myself with their inconsiderately uncalled for treatment they are pulling.

  12. Elizabeth Preston says:

I saw the Peta information back in 2002 and while I had never used their food, I made sure to let all my kitten buyers not to get Iams and told them why. I am sad to see the company still hasn’t cleaned up their act and started acting like humane people instead of money grubbing beasts.
I do not purchase P & G items either as I understand they still use animal testing for may of their products…so totally unnecessary these days with all the computer trials and programs that could be utilized.
