Target: Samantha Woodward, organizer for the Isaac Memorial Dog Show
Goal: Thank the community of Sheffield, England for paying tribute to a local dog who was tortured and killed.
In Sheffield, England a Staffordshire bull terrier named Isaac was taken from his yard and later tied to a tree where his legs were broken and he was set on fire. Friends of Isaac’s owner Andy McNamara have organized a dog show not only in Isaac’s memory, but also to raise awareness about animal cruelty. Any opportunity taken to turn such a tragic event into something positive and that hopefully prevents similar instances in the future deserves a great deal of gratitude.
The event will include a dog show, barbecue, slideshow, and also a demonstration from support and guide dogs. The ultimate goal is to push a petition to strengthen animal cruelty laws, which include a 2-year minimum mandatory prison sentence and a lifetime ban from owning another animal. Competitions within the dog show will include best puppy, best veteran, and best rescue dog. There will also be fun categories for waggiest tail, prettiest bitch, most handsome dog, best trick, and sweetest expression. The winner of best in show, judged by Andy, will be given the Isaac Memorial Trophy. Andy said, “It’s a lovely idea to hold the show in Isaac’s memory. We want to get as many people as possible to sign the petition.”
Isaac’s story is one of the most tragic in recent years and continues to raise awareness about animal cruelty. A 28-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing unnecessary suffering to an animal, but has since been bailed and will likely only receive a misdemeanor for the crime. Hopefully Isaac’s memorial will help to improve these laws and keep more horrific acts of cruelty like this from happening. Regardless of the outcome, those who work to transform something so terrible to try and erase the injustice that caused it deserve our praise. Please take a moment to sign the petition below and thank the town of Sheffield for memorializing Isaac and pushing for stronger animal cruelty laws.
Dear Samantha Woodward,
You recently announced the memorial dog show for Isaac, a local Sheffield dog that was stolen, abused, and burned to death. The event will also be used to raise awareness about animal cruelty and hopefully set laws in motion that will strengthen the punishments for such crimes.
Thank you so much for not only ensuring that Isaac and his horrible end are not forgotten, but also for trying to turn this tragic incident into something positive for all of the other animals throughout England.
