Greenpeace releases an ‘Energy Revolution’ plan

Greenpeace asks, “Why must we look to the past, for leadership today?”  And declares, “Join the energy revolution.”

That “energy revolution” is a plan Greenpeace has released in conjunction with the European Renewable Energy Council.  Treehugger highlights the main components of the plan as:

  • Ending subsidies of fossil fuels and nuclear power,
  • Imposing a cap-and-trade system,
  • Increase efficiency standards,
  • Mandate targets for renewable energy generation,
  • Require access to the grid for renewable energy sources,
  • Create stable returns for investors,
  • Require disclosure mechanisms to show carbon footprint of energy sources,
  • Increase R&D for renewable energy generation and efficiency.

I haven’t reviewed the report in-depth, so I haven’t formed an opinion on it yet.  However, the JFK video is terrific.  I would just add to Greenpeace’s question: “Why must we look to the past, for public leadership today?”  There is a growing number of private leaders.  The time has come for a public one.
