Demand Justice for Victim of Gang Rape

Target: Austin, Texas Police Chief Art Acevedo

Goal: Demand further investigation and charges for Texas gang rapists

On June 29th, 2013, a 13 year-old girl was gang-raped by as many as 10 men in an apartment building in Austin, Texas. The young girl had run away earlier from a group children’s’ home (the Settlement Home for Children) and subsequently got into a car with three unknown adult men. While the events between this and the crime are not clear, what is known is that that later than night, the young victim was subjected to a series of rapes that went on into the daylight of dawn.

Two men—Juan Lozano Ortega, 25, and Edgar Gerardo Guzman Perez, 26—were recently charged with the heinous crime of aggravated sexual assault of a child. They are since being held in jail on bonds of $30,000 each. However, the evidence makes clear that there are several more men who deserve to arrested and charged for their crimes. According to the arrest affidavit in the cases of Ortega and Perez, “All of the other males [after defendants Ortega and Perez] took turns having sex with victim against her will, which lasted through the early morning hours.”

Police were fortunate that the stupidity of Ortega and Perez allowed them to arrest the criminals; the two rapists left a cell phone with the victim, which was traced by police. However, there are several more men who deserve to be arrested and charged, so local police must continue to investigate to bring justice for this young rape victim. Please sign the petition below to demand that Chief Art Acevedo’s police force continues their investigation until all the culprits are charged.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Police Chief Art Acevedo of Austin, Texas:

In a horrifying case, a 13 year-old girl was recently gang-raped by as many as 10 adult men. While not all of the conditions involving her capture and abuse are known, your police officers have determined that the poor girl was repeatedly raped by the men for hours on end.

While your officers were lucky to catch defendants Juan Lozano Ortega and Edgar Gerardo Guzman Perez by merit of their ineptitude, your men and women in uniform must continue to investigate to bring all the culprits to justice. I demand that you keep open the investigation—ensuring that it is thorough and sweeping—until all of the guilty are in jail. Anything less would be a travesty for the young victim of this crime.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]
