Target: Wendy Davis, Texas State Senator
Goal: Commend Wendy Davis for saving women’s medical rights in Texas
In the ever ending war on women’s rights, women have claimed yet another victory. Texas was in the process of passing a bill that would have put restrictions on abortion clinics and banned the procedure after 20 weeks. This bill would have had devastating effects on women in Texas, which is why Texas Senator Wendy Davis stood for 13 hours to filibuster it. She deserves a warming thank you from women (and men) all over for displaying how important women’s rights are.
Wendy Davis is more than just a woman who filibustered an abortion bill, she has also filibustered against a budget that would have cut school funding in Texas by $5 billion and got almost all of the money back 2 years later. She has shown devotion for many causes, including: cancer prevention, payday lending, government transparency, and protecting victims of sexual assault.
Davis, now 50, also had to take on the responsibility of a job in order to support her family at the age of 14 and became a single mother at age 18. She still managed to attain the title of first-ever college graduate in her family and moved on to earn her law degree from Harvard with honors. She has also been noted as fashionable wearing pink sneakers for her filibuster. By adding your name to this petition you are commending Wendy Davis for being an outstanding woman and for saving women’s medical rights in Texas. She has done a phenomenal job.
Dear Wendy Davis,
Recently you stood for 13 hours to filibuster a bill that would have had a disastrous effect on women in Texas. You saved the medical rights of thousands of women and overtime have done so much more.
By filibustering the bill that would have put restrictions on abortions and limited the procedure to 20 weeks, you set an example to everyone that women’s rights are not negotiable or to be played with by Republicans. You let people know how important it is to fight for women’s rights as hard as possible and that is admirable.
I have recognized that over many years you have fought for or sponsored many other causes that are important to this country and individuals alike. You have sponsored causes like protecting victims of sexual assault and almost regained an entire $5 billion for Texas public schools. By signing this petition I am commending you for being a phenomenal woman, an amazing senator, and for defeating a bill that would have cost many women an important right.
