Investigate Case of Puppies Abandoned in Desert

Target: Tuscon Animal Defense League

Goal: Pressure law enforcement to investigate case of puppies left to die in the desert

Recently, six seven-week-old puppies were abandoned in a cardboard box in the middle of the Arizona desert.  The unknown perpetrator left them for dead with no food and no water. Two of the puppies died and the other four survived but were found in a state of starvation and severe dehydration. Urge a prominent Tuscon animal rights group to pressure law enforcement to thoroughly investigate this horrifying instance of animal abuse.

A Good Samaritan who was out in the desert geocaching with friends saw a puppy stumbling around a cardboard box and went over to investigate. Upon reaching the box, he discovered that one puppy was already dead and the others were so weak they could barely cry for help. Another puppy died shortly after being transported to veterinary care because it lacked necessary nutrients and fluids. The four puppies that survived were treated with IV fluids and then later placed in foster care.

Animal abuse, in particular dog abuse, is alarmingly common in the United States. In 2007, over 1,200 cases of dog abuse were reported – that’s almost 3 instances of dogs abuse a day.  Worldwide, hundreds of thousands of dogs are abandoned every year. These statistics exclude instances of dog abuse that go undiscovered or unreported, and the Humane Society points out that the majority of abuses do indeed fly under the radar. Since owners are so often not held responsible for the maltreatment or their pets, the horrible cycle of animal abuse continues. It is likely that the individual who abandoned these puppies believes he or she will not be prosecuted for their neglectful actions.

This is a pattern that needs to be put to a stop, and can be done so one case at a time. To do so, it is necessary that law enforcement put forth an increased effort in locating those who participate in such abominable abuses of defenseless animals. The Tuscon Animal Defense League takes special interest in animal abuse cases and animal rights legislation. They could most effectively pressure law enforcement to investigate this important case. Implore the Tuscon Animal Defense League to pressure Tuscon officers to further pursue a case involving the abuse 0f these innocent puppies.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Tuscon Animal Defense League,

Recently, a horrific instance of animal abuse and murder occurred. An unknown perpetrator abandoned six seven-week-old puppies in the middle of the Tuscon desert. Two of these innocent creatures died, one before anyone could find them and one after receiving medical treatment at a nearby facility.

As I am sure you are well aware, animal abuse, particularly canine abuse, remains a large and often neglected issue. Many cases go unreported, and even if they are reported, many often go unpunished. As one of the most prominent animal defense groups in Arizona, you have the power to hold this cruel animal abuser responsible for his or her actions. If you pressure Tuscon law enforcement  to open a thorough investigation, it is far more likely that they will diligently pursue this case. If you stand by and allow such an atrocious act of abuse and neglect to occur, you will be failing animals and those who love them. You will also be allowing a vicious cycle to continue. Please act immediately — please urge Tuscon officers to open a comprehensive investigation regarding the neglect of these six innocent puppies.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]
