Target: Mamaroneck, New York Mayor Norm Rosenblum
Goal: To stop the senseless killing of geese in Mamaroneck
Canadian geese have been residents of Mamaroneck, New York for more than three decades. Although they are rather peaceful, village officials are now trying to get rid of them. The mayor is pressing ahead in plan for the geese to be killed by the USDA Wildlife Services.
Mayor Rosenblum has enlisted the help of the USDA Wildlife Services program, which is a tax-funded program that kills more than a million wild animals each year. The animals that are killed are mostly considered an inconvenience to the human residents they live near. The USDA Wildlife Services program is known for its cruel methods of killing animals in urban areas. Even if the birds are a nuisance to residents there is no reason to slaughter them. There are probably other animals that can also become difficult to live around, but they aren’t being senselessly killed.
Killing these geese that have been peaceful residents for more than three decades is cruel. They will not be treated humanely in their slaughter, which is unjust and unfair. The village of Mamaroneck needs to either deal with their presence or come up with a better solution to dealing with these geese. Sign the petition below to ask Mayor Rosenblum to use a more humane method to deal with the geese.
Dear Mayor Rosenblum,
The Canadian geese that have inhabited your village have been there for more than three decades. They have become part of your ecosystem and part of your community. Enlisting the USDA Wildlife Services to kill these geese is a cruel act and makes you community look inhumane and insensitive.
These geese have become a part of your community and senselessly killing them will not solve your issues. They will repopulate quickly, thus creating an endless killing cycle. There have to be more humane ways that you can look into to control them if they are that much of a nuisance to you.
We are asking you to please seek alternative methods in solving your problem. If the geese are that much of a nuisance to you, then there have to be more humane ways to deal with them. Birds will always be around in your community, and there is no sense in trying to senselessly kill them off.
